For as long as there has been humans, stories have been shared and textiles have woven themselves into our history. Cuentitos y Colores invites families to celebrate just that as we explore natural color and textile art through bilingual story-telling. We will explore one color at a time and the magical origins and folk tales connected to it.

What to bring:

• one ripe avocado

• a jar or container with lid to save your dye

• a blanket to sit, packed lunch and waters

Gather in community as we brew something special. Stories live in all of us as memories, heritage, relationships, experiences and much more. This space will invite a celebration of creative process and expression. In a journal or sketchbook, we will explore different artistic mediums from concept and color development, ink making, illustration, multi-texture, and botanical play to name a few. I will gently guide the group through a medium, but the hope is that we each share and learn from one another as the beautiful diverse community we are. As I work on my own “story” for our next collection workshop, I will invite you along for the ride so you too, create a story of your own..As a family or independently you can work on this process journal that can house some our imagination taking form...let’s see what stories unfold...

Bring your sewing machine to our garden and sew in community. We will go over the basics of a sewing machine, and basic stitches. We will explore different fabrics, draping on form, hand sewing and intro to pattern making (how clothes are build piece by piece.) I will guide you through some simple pieces at first and build into free style sewing.

What to bring for our first gather:

-sewing machine

-blank journal and pencil

-any fabric you may have or clothes you want to up-cycle(I will have donated fabric as well)

-a forgotten piece from your closet

-safety pins
